Garrett's management of Romo and the games has been a disappointment

Jason Garrett wants to coach the kind of team Bill Belichick would be proud of, which is to say a smart one with a firm grasp of situational football Authentic Steelers Jerseys.

But can Garrett achieve that with the Cowboys when he doesn't practice what he preaches?

It's an understatement to say Garrett has gone to great lengths to improve his team's football IQ. He drilled the players repeatedly during training camp on how to handle different situations. And just last week, scoreboards were added at Valley Ranch to enhance situational work during in-season practices.

It's unfortunately for Garrett, there have been moments when all his hard work seems to have Heath Miller jersey fallen on deaf ears. Case in point: Tashard Choice and Felix Jones running out of bounds at inopportune times late in the last two games.

While the Cowboys' situational gaffes haven't been limited to players. For all his talk about the need for heady play, the Princeton-educated Garrett has made plenty of dubious decisions in crunch time.

Let's go back to last season's opener Franco Harris jersey at Washington, where Garrett called for a Hail Mary on the final play of the first half. When the defense prevented a deep heave, Tony Romo dumped the ball to Choice, whose fumble was returned for a TD that gave the Redskins a 10-0 halftime lead.

Garrett's aggressive play calling also came into question in losses last season to New Orleans and Arizona. He made more suspect moves in this year's opener, including calling for a pass on third-and-goal that led to a Romo fumble that helped the Jets overcome a 14-point, fourth-quarter deficit en route to a 27-24 win.

Here came the debacle against Detroit two weeks ago. Leading 27-3, Dallas collapsed thanks to three Romo interceptions the Lions converted into 21 points en route to a 34-30 win. Click

While Romo got clobbered by the fans and the media, it should be pointed out Garrett set up his erratic quarterback for disaster by asking him to throw in situations where it would have been prudent to run the ball.

Garrett admitted One day later that his aggressive play calling factored into the biggest collapse in team history, but his mea culpa went largely unnoticed because of all the Romo bashing.

Of course, Garrett has done a lot of good Brett Keisel jersey since he received the reins at midseason last year. He has restored discipline and toughness to a team that had grown accustomed to cutting corners under Wade Phillips.

However, Garrett's management of Romo and the games has been a disappointment. Romo's inability to Cheap NFL Jerseys curb his impulsive throws, coupled with a young offensive line and a banged-up receiving corps, begged for a commitment to the run in the second half against Detroit.

Maybe Garrett could learn from Belichick, who against the Jets last week opted for a bulldozing running attack when Rex Ryan flooded the field with cornerbacks to counter Tom Brady. The result was a balanced attack, a 30-21 win and further proof that it's not just the players who must have high football IQs.
